Detox Binder - 60 Capsules

A binder is a supplement that works inside the digestive tract to bind to toxins, heavy metals, and other unwanted compounds, preventing them from being reabsorbed through the gut wall and recirculating in the body. Most are then excreted via the bowel. This is mechanistically different from a detox tea or cleanse, which typically work by stimulating bowel movements or increasing urine output. iThrive Detox Binder uses three layers of binding action: adsorbents (activated charcoal from coconut shell and citrus pectin), which attract and bind toxins to their surface; mobilisers (chlorella and cilantro extract), which help draw heavy metals out of tissues and move them into the digestive tract for excretion; and gut-protective botanicals (aloe vera and bamboo extract), which soothe the intestinal lining during the process. This multi-mechanism approach addresses toxin clearance at every stage rather than just one.

Chlorella has a tough outer cell wall made of cellulose that the human digestive system cannot break down. Intact cell wall chlorella passes through the gut largely unabsorbed — the active compounds inside, including chlorophyll and the binding agents that chelate heavy metals, never make meaningful contact with the intestinal environment. Broken cell wall chlorella has been mechanically processed to rupture this outer barrier before it reaches you, making the active components immediately bioavailable for binding and absorption. This is a meaningful formulation distinction: most low-cost chlorella supplements do not specify cell wall status, which makes their heavy metal binding activity largely theoretical.

Most important timing rule: take Detox Binder away from other supplements and medications. Activated charcoal is a non-selective adsorbent, it binds to a wide range of compounds, which is what makes it effective at capturing toxins. It does not distinguish between unwanted compounds and beneficial ones, so taking it alongside other supplements can reduce their absorption. A safe approach is to take Detox Binder at least 2 hours before or after other supplements and medications. Take 2 capsules daily with a large glass of water. Many people find it convenient to take before bed, away from daytime supplement protocols. If using alongside iThrive Probiotics, maintain the 2-hour separation for the same reason.

The Detox Binder is most commonly used in three contexts. First, during or after antimicrobial protocols when pathogens, fungi, or bacteria are killed off rapidly by herbs or antibiotics, they release endotoxins and waste products (sometimes called "die-off" or Herxheimer reactions). A binder helps capture these before they recirculate and cause symptoms like brain fog, fatigue, or skin breakouts. This is why it's often used alongside iThrive Immune Support or Anti-Fungal Support. Second, for people with ongoing exposure to heavy metals, water contamination, dental amalgam fillings, certain fish consumption patterns, or occupational exposure. Third, as a general daily support for anyone living in a high-pollution urban environment or dealing with chronic unexplained fatigue and brain fog where toxic load may be a contributing factor.

Activated charcoal can slow bowel transit if taken in high doses without adequate water intake. At the dose in this formula (500mg) and with adequate hydration (at least 300ml water with each dose), most people don't experience constipation. The aloe vera leaf extract included in the formula (50mg) helps soothe the intestinal lining and supports healthy gut motility, which offsets any transit-slowing tendency of the charcoal. If you experience any change in bowel habits, increase water intake first. If constipation persists, reduce to 1 capsule daily and build back up gradually. People with a history of constipation should start slowly and ensure they're well hydrated throughout supplementation.

Both approaches are valid depending on your situation. For people using it as mop-up support during a specific antimicrobial or gut-clearing protocol (typically 4-12 weeks), cycling is appropriate - use it during and shortly after the protocol, then pause. For people using it for general heavy metal and environmental toxin support in high-exposure contexts, daily use at 2 capsules is reasonable. The main consideration for long-term daily use is ensuring adequate intake of fat-soluble vitamins and minerals, as activated charcoal can reduce absorption of these if taken too close together. Using Detox Binder at a different time of day from fat-soluble supplements (Vitamin D3, K2, Omega-3) avoids this concern entirely.
