Clinically effective zinc formulated with copper balance and gut-protective L-Carnosine, so nothing is left out.
You're taking zinc. You're probably still depleting copper.
Most zinc supplements on the market are solo zinc, one ingredient, nothing else. That's a problem, because long-term zinc supplementation without copper progressively depletes your copper stores. Copper depletion causes anaemia, weakened immunity, and neurological symptoms. It's a documented clinical risk that most supplement brands don't mention, because solving it costs more to formulate.
iThrive Zinc Defense solves this with three nutrients in one capsule: chelated zinc glycinate for superior absorption, copper gluconate to maintain the zinc-copper balance, and L-Carnosine a dipeptide that stabilizes zinc at the gut wall, protects the gastric mucosa, and adds its own anti-glycation and antioxidant activity.
This is the combination that functional medicine practitioners actually use. It's not common in Indian supplements because it's harder to formulate. It's the only Indian zinc supplement that includes all three.
What most zinc supplements miss and why it matters:
| Supplement | Zinc form | Copper? | L-Carnosine? | Long-term risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zinc Defense (iThrive) | Glycinate (chelated) | Yes -1mg | Yes -75mg | None - balanced |
| Most Indian zinc brands | citrate or gluconate | No | No | Copper depletion risk |
| Imported brands (Thorne, DFH) | Picolinate / bisglycinate | One includes copper | None include this | 2–3x the price |
FSSAI note: "Copper depletion" is a factual statement about the physiological interaction between zinc and copper, it is not a disease claim.
Three ingredients. Three distinct functions:
- Zinc Glycinate (15mg elemental · 88.24% RDA) chelated form, meaning zinc is bonded to the amino acid glycine for intestinal absorption via the amino acid transport pathway. Significantly higher bioavailability than zinc oxide or sulphate. No gastric irritation. Supports immune cell production, wound healing, skin health, testosterone synthesis, thyroid hormone conversion, and DNA repair.
- Copper Gluconate (1mg elemental · 58.82% RDA) included specifically to maintain the zinc-copper ratio. Copper is a cofactor for immune enzymes, connective tissue synthesis, iron metabolism, and neurological function. Long-term zinc alone suppresses copper absorption; this capsule prevents that.
- L-Carnosine (75mg) a dipeptide of beta-alanine and histidine. Works on three levels: stabilises zinc absorption at the gut wall (Zinc-L-Carnosine is clinically studied for gastric mucosal protection), reduces oxidative stress as an antioxidant dipeptide, and exhibits anti-glycation activity, slowing the process by which excess blood sugar damages proteins and tissues.
WHAT IT SUPPORTS
Immunity and infection resistance:
- Zinc is required for the production and maturation of T-cells, B-cells, and natural killer cells, the primary soldiers of the immune system
- Zinc deficiency is the most common micronutrient deficiency after iron, and directly impairs immune response speed and strength
- The copper balance maintained by this formula ensures immune enzyme function is not compromised by copper depletion over time
Skin, hair, and wound healing:
- Zinc is required for collagen synthesis and keratin production, their deficiency presents as slow wound healing, hair thinning, and skin changes
- L-Carnosine's anti-glycation activity helps protect skin proteins from damage caused by elevated blood sugar which is relevant for anyone with metabolic or hormonal concerns
Hormonal health — thyroid, testosterone, PCOS:
- Zinc is a cofactor for the enzyme that converts T4 to T3 (the active thyroid hormone) and its deficiency slows this conversion and can present as thyroid symptoms even with normal T4 levels
- Zinc supports testosterone synthesis in the Leydig cells, low zinc is consistently associated with low testosterone in men
- In PCOS, zinc supports insulin sensitivity and helps regulate androgen levels, complementary to the spearmint in iThrive Detox Tea Blend and the Myo-Inositol in Active B-Complex
Gut barrier support:
- Zinc-L-Carnosine (the complex formed by zinc and carnosine at the gut wall) is clinically studied for its ability to protect and repair gastric mucosa also used in Japan as a standard H. pylori treatment adjunct
- Supports gut lining integrity, which is central to both immune and digestive health
Three active ingredients. Nothing added to make manufacturing easier.
No magnesium stearate. No silicon dioxide. No artificial colours. No preservatives. The only "other ingredient" is glycine included as part of the zinc glycinate chelate itself, not as a filler.
Capsule shell is 100% HPMC and vegetarian, clean. GMP certified. ISO certified. Third-party lab tested.
How to use
Take 1 capsule daily, approximately 1.5 hours after a meal or as directed by your healthcare practitioner.
Why 1.5 hours after food: Zinc absorption competes with other minerals (calcium, iron) consumed during meals. Taking zinc between meals — after food has cleared the stomach — reduces this competition and maximises the advantage of the chelated glycinate form.
Can be taken alongside: iThrive Active B-Complex (B6 supports zinc metabolism), iThrive Magnesium Bisglycinate (zinc and magnesium work synergistically for immune and hormonal function), and iThrive Detox Tea Blend for a comprehensive PCOS or hormonal support stack.
Note on timing with other minerals: If you take iThrive Vitamin D3+K2 or Calcium, space them 2 hours apart from Zinc Defense — calcium and zinc share absorption pathways.
Practitioner’s Note

"The copper inclusion in this formula is the decision most brands skip not because it's unnecessary, but because it raises the cost and complexity of the product. The zinc-copper antagonism is well-established in nutrition science: consistent zinc supplementation without copper will, over time, deplete copper stores and impair the copper-dependent enzymes involved in immune function and iron metabolism. Including 1mg of copper gluconate per capsule keeps the ratio safe for long-term daily use without needing a separate copper supplement. The L-Carnosine addition serves a different but equally important function as it forms a complex with zinc at the gut wall that has been studied specifically for gastric mucosal protection, making this formula appropriate for people with any history of gut lining concerns, H. pylori, or gastric sensitivity. Together, these three ingredients address zinc repletion in a way that is complete rather than partial."
