The Organic Acids Test (OAT) is a comprehensive urine-based laboratory test that measures selected organic acid metabolites—compounds formed as the body processes nutrients and carries out everyday metabolic activities. These markers can offer a healthcare practitioner a broader view of certain metabolic pathways, including energy production, gut microbial activity, nutrient metabolism and neurotransmitter metabolism.

The test is designed to provide additional information that may help guide a practitioner’s assessment. Results should be considered alongside a person’s symptoms, health history and other clinical findings; they are not intended to diagnose a condition on their own.

About the Test : 

Organic acids are acidic byproducts of cellular metabolism that are produced by living organisms—including humans, bacteria, and fungi—and are typically excreted in urine. These compounds are the downstream products of various metabolic pathways, such as microbial activity, energy production, detoxification, neurotransmitter synthesis, and nutrient metabolism. When metabolic pathways function efficiently, organic acids are processed and excreted at expected levels. But if enzymatic function is impaired, nutrient cofactors are deficient, or toxins/ microbial byproducts inhibit pathways, these can become blocked, causing abnormal organic acid buildup in urine.

The Organic Acids Test (OAT) provides a comprehensive nutritional and metabolic snapshot of an individual’s overall health. The OAT measures 76 organic acids from one easy to collect urine sample.

  How sample collection generally works ? 
  

• The OAT is a test in which you require a single first morning urine sample collected at your home using the urine container provided inside your supplied kit.
  Please follow all collection instructions given in the instruction manual given inside the kit.
• Transfer the sample into the laboratory-provided container and complete the required labels and paperwork i.e fill the patient information form inside the kit.
  2 days prior to your decided date of sample collection, inform the iThrive team to ask Nordic Labs to book the DHL pickup and share the shipping papers.
• Once the sample is collected, please store the sample in your freezer and remove it from the freezer and pack it into the kit, just before the DHL guy comes for the pickup at your home.
• From your home once the sample is picked up, it will take about 4 days to reach the Denmark Nordic lab.iThrive team will confirm once the sample has reached the lab.
  Once the analysis has started, it will take about 3 weeks for the reports to be generated.
• Once generated, iThrive team will share the report with you over email or WhatsApp.

Medications & supplements to avoid before the test :

• Starting the previous evening, slightly decrease your liquid/fluid intake to avoid excessive dilution of the urine.
• Avoid apples, grapes, pears, and cranberries as well as their juices or products for 48 hours before sample collection.
• Avoid glutathione supplementation for 72 hours prior to collection.
• For adults, restrict fluid intake starting at 6pm the evening prior to collection. Urine must be yellow in colour, if urine is clear the sample is too diluted. Discard diluted sample, rinse collection cup in hot water ONLY (no soap) and air dry, then recollect.
• Empty your bladder before going to bed at night (do not collect this urine).Don’t wake up in the middle of the night to collect. Please collect in the morning only.
• Avoid arabinogalactan, echinacea, reishi mushrooms, and ribose supplements for 48 hours prior to collection.

Sample collection feasibility : 

Generally, the sample pickup can be arranged via DHL from all tier 1 cities in India but certain outskirt areas in the city might not always be feasible due to shipping delays from there. Even if you live in a big city, please still check your pincode with the iThrive team if it's feasible for pickup before purchasing this test.This test is not possible from Tier 2 cities and below, since this test has a sensitive sample.

Kit Dispatch : 

After your order is placed on our website, we will dispatch the sample collection test kit to your address. The kit is dispatched from our Pune warehouse. Once dispatched, the kit is usually delivered within 3 to 4 days of placing the order, although the delivery timeline may vary depending on your pincode. We generally send our courier via Blue Dart, DTDC or Delhivery.

The Sample Collection Kit includes:

The Kit will be from the Nordic Labs.It will contain an instruction manual and the tools required to collect the sample like the urine collection plastic container, patient information form, 1x biohazard zip-lock bag,1 x Silver thermo envelope,1 x Return shipping bag,1 x Absorbent pad,ice gel pack, FedEx document holder pouch, collection tray, rubber gloves,etc.

Please note: if the collection instructions are not followed carefully, it may lead to delay in the results or recollection which will involve further costs.

Sample collection Instructions from the iThrive Team : 

Once the iThrive team receives your order, they will contact you and share the sample collection and shipping instructions within max 1-2 business days.

DHL Sample Pickup : 

The sample pickup will be arranged from your home itself via DHL courier.Therefore, the DHL person will come to your home to collect the sample. The iThrive team will schedule the DHL pickup on your behalf. So you don’t have to take efforts to arrange the pickup. The DHL pickup can only happen on two days i.e either a Monday or a Friday. It will not happen on weekends or public holidays. For better shipping of the urine sample, we have selected Monday or Friday, as the day for shipping.
You will have to inform the iThrive team two working days in advance of the pickup date to schedule the pickup. The DHL person will come between 2 PM and 8 PM on the day of the pickup to collect the sample. The exact time the person comes is not fixed, since it's an online-generated pickup, and therefore it's preferable that you stay at home on the day of the pickup to hand over the package. Also, we don't get the contact details of the ground person coming for the pickup, since it's an online-generated pickup.

Shipment Paperwork: 

The iThrive team will provide the shipping-related papers for you to print and attach to the shipment. They will send you the PDF soft copy one day before your actual date of pickup. Then you will have to print these documents. You will also have to print a Xerox copy of your Aadhaar Card to attach to the shipment.

Shipping and Results : 

Once the sample has been picked up from your home, it takes about 4 days for it to reach Denmark Nordic Labs. After the sample has been dispatched, the iThrive team will share the DHL AWB tracking number with you. Once the sample reaches the lab successfully, the iThrive team will inform you. Once analysis begins, it takes approx 3 weeks for the reports to be generated. The reports are generated on the Nordic Labs portal. We will download the report from there and share it with you via email or WhatsApp.Also, just for your information, the sample is going to Nordic Labs in Denmark first. And there, it will be stored in a special cold storage. From there, it will be transported in special storage to the USA at Mosaic Diagnostics, and your sample will be analysed only at Mosaic Diagnostics. Nordic Labs is just a forwarding lab. But the report will be in the name of Nordic Labs.

Sample Handling and sample Stability information : 

Once collected, the sample needs to be stored in your freezer for at least 6 hours, before handing it over to the DHL pickup person. You can keep it in a cool and dry place till the FedEx guy comes for pickup. Also, during transit of the sample, it doesn’t need to be shipped in cold storage. As per the lab's strict instructions, the sample must reach the lab within 10 days from the date of collection; otherwise, it will be declared as rejected, and testing will not be carried out. In this case, a new sample has to be sent for testing.

DHL Sample Shipping Charges : 

The international DHL shipping charges for sending the sample from India to Denmark are also included in the test price. But in case the sample gets rejected when it reaches the lab, and you have to send a new sample, then you will have to pay the re-shipping charges. The re-shipping charges are Rs.4200 currently. These may vary in the future depending on the increase in courier charges.

Terms and Conditions :

1) Once purchased, this OATs test is 100% non-refundable, regardless of the reason for cancellation, non-use of the kit, delay in collection or inability to provide the sample.

2) As per the laboratory’s requirements, the sample must reach the Nordic Laboratory in Denmark within 4 days from the date of sample collection. If the sample reaches the laboratory after the permitted timeframe, it may be rejected, and a new sample may be required. In some rare circumstances, the sample may get stuck or delayed in Indian or Denmark customs, which can also result in the sample arriving late and getting rejected.

3) In the case of sample, rejection, if a new sample needs to be shipped, the customer will not be required to pay the complete test price again. However, applicable DHL re-shipping charges will have to be paid separately to iThrive.The current DHL re-shipping charge is ₹4200/-. This amount may change in the future depending on courier charges, fuel surcharges, customs requirements or other applicable costs.

4) If the sample is rejected during the very first attempt of sending the sample to the Denmark lab, then a new kit will be required for you to send the sample once again. For one unit this new kit, the charges will be Rs.500/-

5) If the sample is rejected during the second attempt, or if the customer loses or misplaces the kit, additional charges for a replacement kit may apply.

6) The final decision regarding sample acceptance or rejection rests with Nordic Labs Denmark.

7) A sample may be rejected for reasons including, but not limited to:

a) Incorrect sample collection or packaging
b) Insufficient or excessive sample quantity
c) Leakage of the urine due to improper sealing
d) Contamination of the sample from the patient's end, if he/she puts anything else rather than the urine sample inside the sample collection vial.
e) Failure to follow the preparation instructions provided after purchase
f) Incomplete, incorrect or missing paperwork
g) Missing signatures or identification documents
h) The sample reaching the laboratory after the permitted timeframe
i) Courier, customs or other shipping-related delays
J) iThrive will make reasonable efforts to coordinate the DHL courier and support the customer throughout the process. However, iThrive will not be responsible for sample rejection caused by DHL delays, customs delays, international shipping issues or other circumstances beyond our control.

8) The customer is responsible for:

a) Confirming DHL serviceability from their location before purchase
b) Providing accurate contact details and pickup address
c) Following the instructions shared by the iThrive team after purchase
d) Completing the required paperwork correctly
e) Being available at the pickup address on the scheduled date
f) Collecting and handing over the sample on the same day
g) Ensuring that the package and documents are ready for pickup
