Detox Tea Blend - 150 gm

No laxatives, no senna, no stimulant herbs. Most mass-market "detox teas" achieve their effect by including senna or cascara, bowel stimulants that force bowel movements and are associated with dependency and electrolyte depletion over time. This blend contains none of those. The five herbs here work through different, gentler mechanisms: dandelion root supports bile production and liver filtration; chicory root provides inulin fibre that feeds beneficial gut bacteria; hibiscus supports antioxidant activity and fluid balance; rooibos reduces oxidative stress through polyphenol action; and spearmint supports digestive comfort and hormonal balance. The net effect is supporting the body's own clearance and filtration pathways by not bypassing them with a chemical flush.

Spearmint is clinically the most interesting herb in this blend for women with PCOS. A randomised controlled trial found that spearmint tea consumed twice daily over 30 days produced a significant reduction in free and total testosterone in women with PCOS, the androgen excess that drives many PCOS symptoms including irregular cycles, excess hair growth, and acne. The mechanism is believed to involve spearmint's anti-androgenic activity at the receptor level. This doesn't make the tea a PCOS treatment, but it does make it a meaningful daily ritual for women managing elevated androgens alongside their broader protocol. Chicory root's inulin prebiotic effect and hibiscus's blood pressure support are also relevant for the metabolic profile that often accompanies PCOS.

Dandelion root has a long history of use as a liver and kidney tonic, with preclinical evidence supporting its role in hepatic protection and bile flow stimulation. Bile is central to the body's natural detoxification process, produced in the liver, stored in the gallbladder, and released into the small intestine to emulsify fats and carry fat-soluble waste products (including toxins and excess hormones) out of the body via the stool. Suboptimal bile flow is common in people eating a low-fat diet, those with sluggish gallbladder function, or anyone under chronic stress. Dandelion root helps stimulate this pathway gently. It also acts as a mild diuretic, supporting kidney filtration alongside hibiscus. These two herbs together make the formula genuinely supportive of the body's two primary filtration organs.

Steep 1 level teaspoon in 200–250ml of hot water (not boiling around 90°C) for 5 to 7 minutes. Strain and drink plain or with a small amount of honey if preferred. Because the blend is completely caffeine-free, it can be taken at any time of day without affecting sleep. Common approaches: morning on an empty stomach to support the liver's overnight clearance activity; after meals to aid digestion and reduce bloating; or as an evening wind-down ritual in place of regular tea or coffee. If you're using this specifically for the spearmint's hormonal benefit in PCOS, two cups daily (morning and evening) reflects the dosing used in the clinical research. One cup daily is sufficient for general daily wellness support.

Rooibos is a South African herbal tea (Aspalathus linearis) that is naturally caffeine-free and exceptionally rich in polyphenol antioxidants, including aspalathin which is a unique compound not found in any other plant. Clinical research on rooibos shows improvements in LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and HDL balance, as well as a reduction in lipid peroxidation (a marker of oxidative damage). It's included here because it supports cardiovascular antioxidant protection, a dimension that dandelion, chicory, and spearmint don't cover. Green tea was not used because it contains caffeine, which would limit the tea's usability across the day. Chamomile has a narrower evidence base. Rooibos is the most well-rounded caffeine-free antioxidant base available, and its mild, slightly sweet flavour complements the earthiness of dandelion and chicory well.

Yes, daily use is how this blend is intended to be used. All five herbs are gentle, food-safe botanicals with no known issues at the daily serving size. The 150g pack gives you 50 cups, designed as a daily ritual rather than a short course. It pairs naturally with several iThrive products: with Detox Binder for a more comprehensive daily toxin clearance approach, the tea supports liver and kidney filtration upstream while the binder captures and removes toxins in the gut; with Probiotics, as the chicory root inulin acts as a prebiotic that feeds the beneficial bacteria you're supplementing; and with Active B-Complex for PCOS management, where the spearmint's anti-androgenic effect complements the Quatrefolic® folate and Myo-Inositol in the B-Complex. The one practical note: if you're pregnant or nursing, consult your practitioner before regular use as dandelion root and hibiscus are generally considered safe in food amounts but should be discussed with your healthcare provider during pregnancy.
