iThrive Healing and Beyond presents Saliva Cortisol Awakening Response Profile Test :

Sample type: Saliva Sample

What will you learn from Cortisol Awakening Response?

This saliva test measures, in saliva, cortisol levels over a period of 12 hours. Cortisol affects almost every organ & tissue in your body. It helps the body respond to stress (cortisol is sometimes called the “stress hormone”), reduces inflammation, regulates blood sugar & metabolism, & controls blood pressure. Consistently high cortisol levels can harm your health, disturb your sleep, while too low levels can also be problematic.

This test is particularly useful for individuals experiencing chronic stress, insomnia, fatigue, or other stress-related symptoms. Understanding your cortisol levels is crucial for managing stress-related health risks.

We offer 6 point cortisol collection. So samples will be collected at 6 time points during 24 hours.

Why testing for Cortisol in Saliva instead of a urine or blood sample?

Testing cortisol in saliva is considered the most accurate way to assess the body’s true cortisol activity because it measures the free, biologically active form of cortisol—the portion not bound to proteins and therefore available to enter cells and exert effects. In contrast, blood tests measure total cortisol, which includes both bound and unbound forms, and can be skewed by stress from the blood draw itself. Urine tests may capture total daily output but do not reflect the real-time fluctuations or daily rhythm of cortisol, especially the critical morning surge. Saliva testing is non-invasive, stress-free, and allows for multiple time-point collections, particularly right after waking, making it ideal for accurately mapping the diurnal cortisol curve and identifying issues like HPA axis dysfunction, adrenal fatigue, or chronic stress.
